So I thought that before I just start blabbering about all things cheer, it might be a good idea to establish some credibility with you. Looking back on the 15 years I spent cheerleading, I see it all as one big roller coaster ride now. But definitely one of those roller coasters that (despite how many times your stomach may have dropped, or how many times you screamed at the top of your lungs, or how many times you thought you were actually going to die or at least get severely injured) as soon as you're off, you want to get back in line for another ride. I began cheerleading when I was six years old for a youth organization in my town. It wasn't until fourth grade that I enrolled in tumbling classes and not until sophomore year of high school did I join an all-star team. My first year competing, my team (United Elite All-Stars in Rockwall, TX) won NCA! The next chance I had at an NCA Jacket was during my first year of college at Blinn. Due to injuries I didn’t get the opportunity to take the Bandshell myself, but my squad killed it and earned the programs second title in a row. They are now at FOUR in a row! *Proud alumni moment* Although I have always competed NCA, I actually work for UCA, who most people think are rivals. Fun fact: they’re sister companies, both owned by Varsity Spirit Corp., but that’s a story for another day. The journey as an NCA competitor and UCA staffer has opened many doors, created some life-long friendships, and unforgettable memories. I am a strong believer that the cheerleading world turns you into a different type of person than most other sports, and I’m proud to be apart of it. All of you should be as well.
